The Monetization Game
How creators go from attention → trust → consistent income (even with a small audience)
Last week, we talked about finding your sweet spot; the point where what you love, what you’re skilled at, and what the market is willing to pay for intersect.
But once you’ve found it, a new challenge emerges:
How do you turn interest into income?
It’s the question every creator (big or small) must answer if they want their work to be sustainable. And contrary to what the loudest voices on social media might tell you, the answer is not “get more followers.”
The truth is: Monetization is not just a numbers game; it’s a trust game.
Step 1: Attention
Without attention, there is nothing to monetize.
Your first role as a creator is to earn awareness… to get people to notice you amidst the noise.
But attention is shallow by default.
People might double-tap your post, laugh at your video, or even follow you… and still forget you exist five minutes later.
So here’s the reality: attention without trust is like water in your hands; it slips away.
You can get attention through trends, shock value, or going viral.
But you keep attention by being consistently you.
Step 2: Trust
Trust is where the magic happens.
It’s built when people believe that:
You know what you’re talking about.
You have their best interest at heart.
You’ll show up for them, again and again.
Trust is the quiet force that makes people stop scrolling when they see your face.
It’s what makes them forward your posts to friends.
It’s why they’ll consume your content to the last line.
And here’s the thing: you can’t fake trust.
You can speed it up with credibility, but you can’t shortcut it without paying the price later.
Step 3: Income
Once you have attention and trust, selling becomes a natural extension of your relationship with your audience.
You’re no longer “convincing” people to buy, you’re offering them something they’ve been silently hoping you’d create.
This is where most creators miss the point.
They wait until they have 50,000 followers before thinking about products or services… only to realize they’ve trained their audience to expect free forever.
But if you build your monetization engine early — small offers, helpful resources, entry-level services — your audience learns that supporting you financially is normal.
The Formula
Here’s the simplest way to think about monetization:
Value → Consistency → Relationship → Offer → Repeat
It’s not glamorous. It’s not overnight.
But it works; whether you have 200 followers or 200,000.
If you remember nothing else from this letter, remember this:
Your audience size doesn’t determine your income. Your audience’s trust does.
Protect your attention, guard your trust, and play the monetization game with integrity.
Till I write you again,
